>> in fact, these numbers are huge for those negotiations. president obama's argument has been that the economy is doing well enough that it could handle a tax hike. if the economy were in recession, as we saw last time, he would be reluctant to lift that top rate. if the economy is growing sharply, then if there's some damage from lifting the top rate, maybe the economy could afford it. gdp growth number is not as strong as the jobs report f we had a really weak jobs report, the president would have a really hard time, even getting moderate democrats, to increase the marginal rate. the fact that it's a strong report puts wind in his sails. >> kevin, you've touched on it a little bit. can you be more specific about what you think we're missing from today's report? >> well, i think that what's missing from the report, if we're looking at the health of the overall economy, is that businesses are really pessimistic right now. we've had five months in a row where the orders for capital goods have been going down and, in fact, going down sharply.
